The Snow Must Not Go On!

Ello!

Sorry I haven't blogged in a lil while. Honestly I have just not been "feeling it" as you will. Ya see, mother nature is a raging bitch. There's been over 2 feet of snow by me in past week or so. Not cool. All this snow has made for a very cranky, stir crazy Crippie. Not only has the snow been constricting me in terms of what I can and cannot do, it's also making me hurt like crazy. I can feel one of my knees swelling up as I'm writing this. Ugh, sorry to complain... it's just frustrating being trapped inside your home and inside your body. I want spring, also Crippie is pretty much set on moving to Arizona one day. As much as I hate scorpions and all that jazz, at this point I hate snow more.

Moving on from weather rants, here's what I've been up to since I'm pretty much trapped between work and home...

Watching "The Walking Dead" - So happy to have this back on. Normally I have little "Walking Dead Parties" with some of my pals, but the weather has prevented them thus far. Hopefully this weekend they shall resume.

"House of Cards" Marathon - *insert Southern drawl* oh my lawd I do love me some House of Cards. The only bad thing about this show is that it makes you crave ribs. It took me a little over a day to finish watching the second season. Last season my favorite character was Claire. While she is still super awesome this season, a new character came in and stole my heart... CASHEW THE GUINEA PIG! I don't want to spoil anything for those of you still watching, but Cashew is amazing and she makes the show.

Listening to the soundtrack of "Frozen" - I have not seen this movie yet, but I really need to. I'm not exaggerating when I say I listened "Let it Go" and "Do You Want to Build A Snowman?" at least four times today. AT LEAST!

Listening to the soundtrack of "Inside Llewyn Davis" - I have not seen this movie either. But I adore the soundtrack. It's definitely one of my favorites. I wish it was longer like "O Brother Where Art Thou" but it's still amazing. If you haven't heard Marcus Mumford & Oscar Issac's cover of "Fare Thee Well - Dink's Song" or Stark Sand's cover of "The Last Thing on My Mind" you need to. As much as love soundtracks with original music, I love soundtracks like this that reintroduce classics. I like my music to have a history. And the songs on this album most certainly do. If you're a folky like me, you'll love this.

Reading - GASP! I know! I'm that bored. I finished reading Art Spiegelman's "Maus" last month and I LOVED it. It's so tragic and gave me all sorts of feels, but it's incredibly well written and well drawn. I cannot recommend it enough. I also read David B.'s "Epileptic". It's the story of the author's experience growing up with his epileptic brother. It got a little confusing at times but I absolutely loved how the author portrayed his brother's illness. Like a monster trying to consume him. Very good read. Also recommend it. To compensate for all the depressing feels I am currently reading Allie Brosh's "Hyperbole and a Half". I'm only one chapter in and I kid you not I was crying from laughter on multiple occasions. In my opinion, her visualizations of depression are the most accurate and relatable descriptions I have ever encountered. As someone who doesn't suffer from depression I read it and go "Oh... I get it now". I haven't even finished this book and I can already tell you that I freaking love it.

Watching Teen Mom 2 - Don't judge me, it's my guilty pleasure. Apart from seeing all of the stupidity and it making me feel better about my life, this season in particular is actually quite poignant. The daughter of one of the girls was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. The contrast of seeing her deal with fitting her daughter in a wheelchair, coming to grips with how she will not be able to things a lot of other kids will go, still clinging to hope that she'll walk down the aisle when she gets married, etc while the others deal with such meaningless "drama". It's compelling, it's real, and it's something that doesn't get featured on TV often.

Snuggles with the Animals - Obviously all of my furbabies have been getting oodles of loves.

Well, that's about it around here. The weather is supposed to warm up for a few days. I'll enjoy it while I have it.

Lego My Leg-O!

Ohai!

I hope y'all are having a fabulous week. My week's been pretty fair thus far. I saw an AMAZING production of "God of Carnage" over the weekend and I was a social creature and watched movies with a friend. YAY for doing things! I don't know about you guys, but the weather by me SUCKS... this is the second straight week of rain every day. In other words, when I'm not making a conscious effort to be a social creature I am in bed with Glenn the heatpack (yup, that sounds dirty).

Helen and Angel have had an eventful week thus far. They were groomed and got their summer puppy cuts. Helen will probably never forgive us. Angel thinks she looks thinner now, and uses that as an excuse to demand more treats. The piggies have also had an event week. They realized I periodically hide salad around their cage and someone switched their round food bowl to an oval food bowl. You'd think that wouldn't matter, but it confused the daylights outta them. The piggies also got peppers (one of the best foods for pigs, apart from lettuce) so they are all chubby and content.

Moving on, I saw this awesome video before and I need to share it with y'all...
SHE MADE A PROSTHETIC LEG OUTTA LEGOS! OH MY FREAKING GOD THAT'S AWESOME!!! On an unrelated note, I think her tattoos are awesome as well.

The video got me thinking... what would I do if I were in that situation? Oh if I ever lost my legs... *starts singing "Moonshadow" and wanders away from the computer* hmm... maybe I'd get a peg leg and dress like a pirate 24/7. OR maybe I'd find a bunch of "Lisa Frank" stickers all over my prosthetic. Needless to say, I'd make sure my new leg looked shnazzy. Maybe I'd pull a Frida Kahlo, putting jingle bells all over my fabulous leg. Hey... if ya got it... flaunt it.

Not gonna lie... I spent a good long while thinking what I'd do if I ever lost a leg. I did also think about what would happen if I lost an arm. The answer there was simple... go all "Walking Dead" and duct tape a big ass knife to it. Yup... just go full Merle.

And that ladies and gentlemen is how Crippie spent her night because I was really too uncomfortable to do much else!

So what about you guys? What would you do if you found yourselves in that situation? Do you have a prosthetic limb? Did you pimp it out?

Crippie's Tippie - SAVE YOUR LEGOS! They might come in very handy one day.

Seriously, I Want Spring

Howdy Y'all

Yup, the weather still sucks. A lot. A whole lot. I'm still in a fair amount of pain and it looks like it is going to snow some more on Wednesday and again on Saturday. It's pretty safe to say that I have a hate/hate relationship with the weather right now. Oh, if any of you guys were wondering, this is how much snow Nemo left us (also, what kind of name is Nemo... storms should not be named after crippled fish)

On the bright side, I've had oodles of distractions to somewhat take my mind off the pain. This weekend it was the "The Walking Dead" Marathon on Saturday followed by the season premiere on Sunday. Needless to say I was pretty damn happy about that. So happy that I decided to make another playlist for y'all... enjoy!

Walking Dead Playlist by Nicole Wynn on Grooveshark

As always my animals somehow manage to lift my spirits. Yesterday I caught Mama Pig being greedy.
Head under one bed, butt on another. My word Mama Pig! Save one bed for your babies... or don't...

And even though I no longer have a massive bag of jerky in my room, Angel still thinks that she'll get some if she smiles enough (I never gave her any btw).

Well, I reckon that's it for tonight, I've got a long day ahead of me tomorrow. I hope y'all have an awesome, pain-free day :D

Blllaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhhhh

Bleeeeehhhhhhhhhhh

Ello everyone, I hope y'all are enjoying your weeks thus far. Mine's been pretty good except for one thing... THIS FREAKING WEATHER! The snow, the ice, the rain, the barometric pressure changes... my tumor-riddled body pretty much hates me now. I've been hanging out with my best buddies Glenn the Heat Pack and other awesome friend PAIN KILLERS. They've been making everything tolerable, but I'm pretty uncomfortable right now. The past few days have basically been like this for me...

Yuuuuupppppp, one of those weeks. I've been trying to distract myself from all the discomfort. Wanna see what I've been up to? Well, when I'm not at work I am either...

Playing with animals, cause they're cute and all that jazz. Maggie wants you all to know that she is adorable. Helen wanted to tell you all something, but she forgot what it was and promptly fell asleep.

I painted my nails an obscene number of times. This one here was 7 coats of polish and I removed it the next day. I also reorganized my nail polish container. During this process I might have sorta admitted to being addicted to nail polish, meh... oh well ;)

Lastly, I've been taking stupid/borderline horrifying pictures of myself with the "Walking Dead: Dead Yourself App". Let's face it, if there's one thing to truly brighten my spirits, it's the fact that "The Walking Dead" returns in less than two weeks! W0000t. I also recently noticed that on top me naming my heat pack Glenn, my guinea pig is named Maggie, and my car is named Penny... I've been naming things after Walking Dead characters even before the show aired! I also have relatives named Carl and Andrea.... GASP... I NEED TO FIND MORE THINGS TO NAME AFTER TWD CHARACTERS! I think I might have to start calling Helen T-Dog from now on 0.0

And on a completely unrelated note, I found a tube of scar treatment lotion in my bathroom, so I'm trying it out to see if it does anything.

Well, that's it for tonight folks. I hope the weather isn't kicking y'alls asses too.

Crippie's Tippie - Random, but if you're using glitter nail polish, use Elmer's Glue as a basecoat, that way it will all peel off

Older Than I Once Was, Younger Than I'll Be

YAY Simon & Garfunkel reference!

Wow, I suck at the whole "blog every day thing". Something tells me posts are gonna be a tad sporadic this month. I've been crazy busy, and all of my spoons are used up by the end of the day. Kinda have to choose sleep over blogging right now. I could try to blog when I'm absolutely exhausted... someone might find it entertaining.

Continuing on, on Tuesday I turned 24! I'M OLD... er. Most of my birthday was spent at work. Overtime is the best present a girl could ask for. Once I eventually got home I had a nomerful dinner with the family, opened my cards and pressies, nommed on chocolate cake, and then promptly passed out because I was exhausted. Even though I was tired as hell, I had an awesome day.

My dad left a balloon in my car <3

"The Walking Dead" themed birthday... HELL TO THE YES! And yes, I totally wore that shirt to work.

Yup, theme birthdays are awesome. When I was 16 I had a mini-cooper themed birthday (I still think those cars are the bee's knees). Today was my day off of work, so I got to officially celebrate my birthday. I got to spend some quality time with my mom. We had nomerful Nathan's Hotdog Nuggets and I scored some nifty nail polishes with thanks to awesome birthday coupons. Seriously, I have a nail polish addition. Again, by a lot of people's standards my birthday succkkkkkeeedddddd. Those people can shove it up their ungrateful asses. Any birthday where I'm not sitting along crying is a good birthday in my books.

Random general tip, I don't know if y'all remember but in the past I've mentioned that I do not have the attention span to read a book. Unless I am forced to read something I don't. That being said, I am a HUGE believer in graphic novels. Oodles of pictures and a fast moving pace. So if like reading but you totally suck at it, I totally recommend graphic novels. My favorite non-zombie filled one is "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi, it's about the Iranian Revolution. Awesome book right there.

Also, since Hanukkah is coming, I'll be going into Jew-ey mode. So if any of you guys have any questions for me please ask away!

Crippie's Tippie - Perspective! It helps you realize that your seemingly terrible situation is no where near as bad as you think it is :D

NHBPM - Crippie Kills A Walker

Yo!

Yeah, I'm totally looking forward to tonight's blog prompt, so I'll just jump into it...

Write a TV episode of your favorite show that features someone with your condition. What do you want people to know?

This is a no brainer (pun intended)... tonight I'm gonna put another cripple in "The Walking Dead". If you don't watch the show at all you can scroll down to the bottom of the post where I'll discuss other non-zombie related things.

Alrighty, I'm gonna put my new cripple character in this season's Prison/Woodbury arc and name 'em Crippie because I feel like it. Crippie is a resident of Woodbury. She has MHE, walks with a cane, and no one believes strong enough to unleash a can of whoop ass on a walker. Crippie keeps a very low profile, all the while becoming ever more aware that the governor is out of his damn mind. Over time she gains the governor's trust, becoming privy to more and more information. Now cut to tomorrow's episode where the governor has several members of Rick's group hostage. Crippie decides to take action and release the hostages. First, she finds Merle Machete hand as he is torturing one of the members of the group. He laughs her off at first but there is something that no one knows about Crippie... her cane is a sword cane. With one swoop she cuts off his other hand (karma's a bitch Merle) and rescue's the first member of the group. Then, they go and find the governor who is "interrogating" the other member of the group. She places her sword back in her cane. Crippie limps in the room, claiming that there is an emergency. While the governor is caught off guard she whips out her sword again and proceeds to kick the governor's ass. Once both of the members are safe they run like the dickens outta Woodbury. While in the woods they meet up with Rick's group as they were coming to rescue the members. We then exact our revenge on Woodbury for torturing people. One of many epic battles ensues and Crippie proceeds to kick major ass. Considering that most of the secondary characters die fairly quickly on the show me thinks Crippie would probably have some form of hero's death scene. The other cripple on the show, One-Legged Hershel would find Crippie's sword cane and continue on the legacy of being a bad-ass cripple.

There ya have it, that should lead us back to an epic battle for the prison and an ultimate showdown between Rick & the governor. Moral of the story? Don't underestimate the cripple... we will mess you up.

NON ZOMBIE-RELATED CONTENT - I have a question for y'all. Since my surgery two months ago my scar has become rather annoying. It's starting to keloid and I feel like there's a lot of scar tissue in general. This area (my lower back) moves around a lot and that skin has to stretch, and my scar is simply not cooperating. It hurts and I occasionally get sharp stinging pains from it. Have any of you guys experienced anything similar? Anyone have any tips or tricks to ease the situation? Lotions? Vitamin E? Anything?

Crippie's Tippie - if you want to prepare for a zombie apocalypse, there are many weapons that can be disguised as canes. Mainly swords and tasers.

Kick-Ass TV Cripple

Aloha!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekends thus far, and that all my locals are enjoying this KICK ASS WEATHER. It was lovely today and the next couple of days look pretty spiffy too... w00t. My day went relatively well, did the usual work and discuss how Lori in "The Walking Dead" needs to die with my coworkers.

Speaking of The Walking Dead (which I am obsessed with and will probably be posting about every Saturday cause I'm s'darn excited about each new episode)... the show is about to get more awesome this season for various reasons (apart from hopefully killing Lori). It's actually going to be a very cripple-friendly season!

Generally speaking cripples on TV have verrryyyy secondary B roles and usually don't contribute much to plot story-lines. The only show I can think of that involved a cripple as the main character is "House"... and that was canceled I don't count it. Currently I can only think of 4 shows that regularly involve cripples, they are...
1 - Family Guy - Joe Swanson plays an active part in the show and gets a fair amount of screen time
2 - South Park - Timmy and Jimmy are freaking awesome, but they don't get a lot of screen or plot time
3 - Glee - at this point Artie exists, but no real story lines revolve around him (and that pisses me off), they also feature actors with Downs Syndrome
4 - The Secret Life of The American Teenager - Also features an actor with Downs Syndrome

If I'm missing any good shows with cripples in 'em... please let me know!

Now, back to the Walking Dead *Spoiler Alerts for anyone who might be interested in watching any of the past seasons or who hasn't seen the promos for this season*.

Well, in season one there was a character named Merle, he was your stereotypical racist redneck. He was left for dead in the first season, which worked for me cause he was a racist asshole and I didn't care for it. Turns out this dude is back and better than ever! Why? Long story short he needed to amputate his hand in the first season... thus leaving him with a nub and probably at greater risk for being killed by a zombie. BUT Merle comes back this season in style... WITH A FREAKING MACHETE HAND.  Yup, dude turned it nub into a weapon. Merle Machete Hand (as I lovingly call him) turned his new found crippledness into an advantage, for once the cripple gets to (probably) survive the zombie apocalypse. All because of his shiny new knife hand. Dude is still a complete racist asshole, but I give him props for creativity. For outstanding acts of cripple bad-assery, let's all give Merle a big hand everyone!

Crippie's Tippie - If you do have a nub, consider making weapon attachments for it. It could come in VERY handy (pun intended)

Holy Pressure Changes Batman!

Ohai!

Holy crap I'm getting lazy with regular posting, sorry 'bout that. Mother nature has been kicking Crippie's ass for the past few days. There have been some crazy pressure changes around here, so Crippie has been feeling kinda bleh overall. Lots of pain meds, NPH, and extra naps.
On top of the pressure changes it appears Crippie is also developing allergies. Apparently Crippie's lungs are special, if I smell something really strong like cigarette smoke or lots of perfume I choke and start having a coughing fit. BTW, if you're smoking by me and I start obnoxiously coughing I'm not trying to be a dick... I honestly can't breathe. For the past couple of days I've been getting seemingly random periods of feeling tightness in my airway... super fun. Oh well, at least allergy medicine helps.
So what does Crippie do on days when she can't function? Well, recently all of Crippie's co-workers convinced her that she needed to start watching "The Walking Dead", so I've been doing that. I got through the entire first season in three days! One perk of being a cripple, I'm pretty much used to blood and gore so I'm not phased by seeing all these zombies getting their faces smashed in. I've also gotten pretty familiar with how the human body works, so I've been analyzing how all the zombies move and determining their mental capacities! Yes, this how Crippie spends her downtime, determining the mental capacities of zombies.

And here's another photo dump to make up for not posting in several days!

Me and Helen playing around
Me holding Helen like a baby (kinda shocked that this picture turned out as well as it did)

Frida and Nellie sleeping in their cuddle cups
Crippie saw a rainbow at work a couple of days ago and was able to snap a pic!

Now Crippie's Sew Able Doll has a piggie too! I received a lovely guinea pig shaped soap from http://cavysavvy.blogspot.com/. It reminds me of Emma <3

Crippie's Tippie - Before getting addicted to a TV show, be sure to find ways of watching all the seasons.
