So This Is What Being Normal Feels Like!

Greetings Comrades!

I hope you all are having a fantastic Saturday. :)

Judging by the title of this post you'd think it was about my disability but shockingly it's not. As some of you may or may not remember Crippie's hair has a mind of it's own. It's big, fluffy, frizzy, long, and naturally dreads very quickly. Don't remember? Let's see if these pics jog your memory...

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh... my hair sucks... I'll admit that. I swear to God a live rat once got tangled up in it (long story short of that... friends rat was grooming my hair, rat got tangled, rat starts crying, Crippie feels sorry for rat). Granted, part of the reason it sucks so much is the length, so while I was on my "Crippie Sucks at Blogging" sabbatical I went to have it cut... and while I was apologizing to the stylists who had to deal with this mess everybody in the damn salon (my mom, sister and the remainder of the stylists) convinced me to get a "keratin smoothing treatment". I was hesitant at first because I used to get my hair straightened in high school, and it made my hair fall out. All the stylists kept telling me "IT'S A SMOOTHING TREATMENT NOT A STRAIGHTENING TREATMENT!" and eventually I caved. I'm glad a caved too, because six hours later (you heard me right, SIX FREAKING HOURS) later, I was left with... brace yourselves... this!

OH MYLANTA MY HAIR IS NORMAL!!!! It had to be straight like this for a week before I could wash it and get my curls back (I hated how frizzy my hair was before, but I like the curly aspect). People didn't recognize me when I went into work! It was crazy! It didn't feel like my hair. My hair felt like straw, this new hair actually felt like hair. I didn't have to spend forever and a day trying to make it look presentable, it just did on it's own.
And when I washed my hair this was the result... not bad right? It's gained a little more volume in the past 2 months since I've done it, but that's probably a good thing. I cannot even begin to tell you guys how much better it feels to have hair that doesn't completely suck. It's sooooooooo much easier to maintain, especially since I physically have trouble maintaining my hair (my hair wouldn't have sucked so much before if I was able to defuse and or straighten it) All I have to do is wet it in the morning and I'm good to go. Crippie's definitely gonna be keeping this up. :D

Crippie's Tippie - If you're complimenting someone on their new hairdo or make-up say your hair looks "extra" good today, otherwise you're implying that it looked like crap before.

Occupy Crippie

Yo!

L'shana Tova to all my Jewish readers out there!

Alrighty, Fanny meets her demise the day after tomorrow. I might be a teensy bit nervous. My tummy was a little upset today, one of the signs that I'm kinda nervous. That being said, I'm still very much looking forward to this surgery. Fanny has been killing me the past few days, the pain in my hip has traveled up my back... boo. I am really not looking forward to Tuesday, I know it is going to suck sooooooooooooo much. But this time next week I'll be on the mend. I just have to keep reminding myself that it will be over before I know it.

In terms of final preparations, I just finished pimping out my polio crutches (pictures tomorrow), and I STRAIGHTENED MY HAIR!!! My unruly mane got an at home keratin treatment because my hair is a bitch and a half to maintain, straightening it makes it easier to take care off. I came to realization that I look like I'm 16 when my hair is straight like it. Luckily it got a little wavy overnight, so it looks better now (another picture tomorrow I reckon).

The pre-surgery jitters were kept at bay today by the theatre! I went to see an incredible production of "The Sound of Music" with the family. "The Sound of Music" is without a doubt my favorite Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, and "Edelweiss" is probably my favorite show tune. It's absolutely haunting, especially considering it is the last song Oscar Hammerstein wrote.

Surprisingly this was the first time I'd ever seen "The Sound of Music" on stage. Boy howdy was it marvelous. The production was astounding, it's in a black box theatre, so the space is crazy limited. Yet they were able to craft fantastic sets and they still managed to make the theatre seem huge. The actors were terrific, I absolutely loved Maria and Mother Abbess, and of course the children were freakin' adorable. The only problem is that I can't get "The Lonely Goatherd" out of my head. The piggies seem to enjoy it when I whistle it though.

NHBPM- Crippie Quote-ie

Yo!

I finally made an official Facebook Page for Crippie's Corner! The other page I have is technically for my graphic design stuff and I figured it was time to separate the two, although I still am going to send blog updates to my "wynning designs" page too.
I can see the light at the end of the National Health Blog Post Month! If only I could fully understand tonight's prompt... Quote Unquote. Grab a quote from this site (type in any word – see what comes up!) and use that quote to set you writing.
Seems like an easy prompt, right? NO! I tried typing in words like "cripple", "tumor", and other various disability words I came up with blog entries from other readers. I also tried words like "nachos", "llama", "weasel", and various other stupid words because I am an "internet female" and it's what we do. So it's not like I'm willingly ignoring a prompt... it's just that I fail at it.
To make up for my failure I'll discuss one of my all time favorite cripple quotes. It was told to me by a fellow cripple years ago and it really changed my opinion on being a cripple.
We are zebras, we must revel in our differences.
I love this quote for several reasons. The whole referring to cripple as a zebra thing is great, because zebras are freakin' awesome. They're like horses... BUT PRETTIER!!!! Sure, I might be different because I'm a cripple, but that's not a bad thing. It's something to embrace and be proud of. Sure, my arms and legs are kinda crooked, my fingers and toes are a little weird, I'm slightly shorter than what I should've been, whatever... it makes me unique. It sets me apart from everyone else, and being different from everyone else is a wonderful thing!

Crippie has a really random question for her wonderful readers... know any good ways to painlessly untangle hair? My hair is super curly and frizzy and has recently decided to start locking together. I don't think dread locs are good look for me. I could cut the really stupid areas out, but I have issues cutting my hair really short (bad memories). Any tips readers? And yes, my hair looks like this whenever I brush it.
